The Avalanch Safty Workshop

We had the first avalanche workshop last sundaz. We introductioned the participants in the theoretical part with all aspects of safety in the mountains in the snow - from planning a tour, monitoring weather and avalanche forecasts, evaluating the terrain and various tests, searching training in realistic situations, and group work procedures. Mandatory equipment for both hikers and skiers was presented. The use in the given conditions was also shown.

Through examples in the classroom and then on the ski slope, we learned about snow and its characteristics, especially the transformation of the snow cover and the causes of avalanches. The practical workshop also included a refresher experience on how to behave in the event of an avalanche when searching for a missing person with the help of mandatory safety equipment, such as the avalanche trinity: woodpecker, shovel and probe.

The second part of the course took place at the ski resort Veliki vrh on Treh kralje, where skiers could try walking with skis and skins. They learned about turning techniques on steep slopes and became familiar with defensive skiing when descending on difficult terrain.

Via Ferrata Challenge

A via Ferrata (Italian for 'iron road') is a mountain route equipped with fixed cables, stemples, ladders, and bridges and which are accessible to people with a wide range of climbing abilities. Whilst the easiest routes are relatively straightforward, more challenging routes are best climbed with a mountain guide to avoid mistakes in handling the safety gear. The confidence of knowing the safety issue is taken care of leaves you to enjoy the stunning scenery and high-level walkways.

A via Ferrata is a great playground for team building. I had an opportunity to lead a group of consultants last weekend. We had a great time on the Mojstrana Via Ferrata.
